Management 2.0

Great post by Business Two Zero: talking about Management Styles fundementally facilitative of emergence rather than imposing of process, and structure.

However, I was pleased that the first hit was for Kathy Sierra’s piece from earlier in the year. She highlights the emerging management style, influenced by web 2.0 thinking, is more community based, and summarises it with this great table:

What better way to get organisational alignment and to retain staff than help those staff to define their own boundaries? Is this part of Rotman’s Integrative Thinking style? Having been enabling organisations with wikis since 2001, it’s certainly something I strongly believe in.

One Response to Management 2.0

Thanks for the kind words and the mention. I think the emergence of social networking, web 2.0 style tools in the enterprise is in the process of creating a dramatic effect. The tools are going to help ideas and innovation happen across departments and boundaries, completely outside of the traditional hierarchies of management. My friend Jon Husband calls it the Wirearchy – have you read his stuff? http://blog.wirearchy.com/blog
